Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Therapy

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), often referred to as "tapping," is a gentle, non-invasive therapeutic approach that helps individuals process and release emotional distress. It combines principles of traditional Chinese acupressure with modern psychology by stimulating specific meridian points on the body while focusing on troubling thoughts or feelings. This tapping sequence helps to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and restore emotional balance.

What makes EFT unique is that it works not just with thoughts, but with the body's energy system—addressing the emotional charge associated with painful memories or negative self-beliefs. It's effective for both adults and children and can be integrated seamlessly with other therapies. At Swaasthya, EFT is used as part of a holistic framework that respects each individual's pace, allowing healing to happen in a way that feels natural, safe, and lasting.

At Swaasthya Healing, we specialize in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a powerful approach that combines cognitive therapy with acupressure to release emotional blocks and promote healing. Our certified practitioners provide personalized EFT sessions tailored to your unique needs.

How does EFT work?

Understanding the Science Behind Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Therapy

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) works by addressing the link between our emotions, thoughts, and the body's energy system. It involves tapping with your fingertips on specific meridian points—energy channels used in traditional Chinese medicine—while focusing on a distressing thought, feeling, or memory. These meridian points are primarily located on the face, chest, and hands. The gentle tapping sends calming signals to the brain, particularly to the amygdala (the part responsible for processing fear and stress), helping to reduce the emotional intensity of the issue.

The process typically starts with identifying a specific concern—such as anxiety, fear, or a limiting belief—and rating its emotional intensity. As the individual begins tapping while voicing the issue, the technique helps release the emotional "charge" associated with it. This leads to a sense of emotional relief and cognitive reframing, where previously overwhelming thoughts begin to feel more manageable, balanced, and less reactive.

EFT stands out because it doesn't require reliving traumatic events in depth or talking extensively about painful experiences. It gently helps the body let go of stored emotional tension, making it especially helpful for individuals who feel "stuck" despite understanding their problem intellectually. Over time, EFT can help rewire conditioned emotional responses, allowing for healthier reactions, greater emotional freedom, and improved overall well-being.

The EFT Process

A Step-by-Step Guide to Emotional Freedom

1

Identify the Issue

Identify a specific issue and rate its intensity (0-10). The more specific, the more effective—focus on "anxiety about my presentation" rather than general "anxiety."

2

Create a Setup Statement

Create an acceptance statement: "Even though I have [this problem], I deeply and completely accept myself." While saying this, tap the "karate chop" point on your hand.

3

Perform the Tapping Sequence

Tap 5-7 times on each meridian point while focusing on your issue: Tap on these points in sequence: top of head, eyebrow, side of eye, under eye, under nose, chin, collarbone, and under arm.

4

Reassess and Continue

Reassess your distress level (0-10). If above 2, continue tapping with an adjusted statement: "Even though I still have some of this [problem], I deeply accept myself."

5

Integration and Closure

When your distress level drops to 0-2, take deep breaths to integrate the shifts. At Swaasthya Healing, we guide you through this entire process with personalized support.
